Casual Chic

I love the idea of creating an event with a casual atmosphere.  But, casual doesn't mean dull or drab.  Instead, taking the idea of a boxed lunch meeting or backyard party and making it fantastically chic is more up my alley - and tends to always make clients say their "wows" and "whoas".  So, if you are looking for a way to turn up the volume on your casual gathering - here are some of my all time favorite ways to do just that...

1.  Use and oldie but a goodie - with a twist.  I mentioned boxed lunches above, and that is because there is SO MUCH you can do with a box!  Whether you add a gorgeous menu on the top, or dress it with ribbons and pearls, guests will be happy to eat out of your very casually chic boxes.  Don't forget to make the fare inside look appetizing and beautiful, too.  I love the idea of mini bites for boxed lunches...but whatever you do, keep it organized and looking great.

2.  Mix and match - and don't overdo it!  If you know my style, I love the perfect balance between matchy-matchy and the right combinations.  To create a casual environment, mix your favorite pieces (decor, china, flatware, glassware, linens, etc.) without over thinking it too much.

3.  Set a clear dress (& fun) code.  One of my favorite, which I (of course) heard through my celebrity gossip mags, is "champagne casual chic".  But, be creative and use words you love.

4.  Keep the menu simple and sweet.  I think of it this way - don't you hate it when you go to a restaurant and you get a heavy, book-sized menu to go through?  I mean, yes, there are times when that is fun, but most times I want to scream.  Minimize the fuss and go easy on the choices (keeping everyone's needs in mind, though).

Lastly, what is more casual then asking a friend to help in the planning?!  Make it a team effort and have fun!

Boldly Yours,
Lori
