Color Confusion

Choosing the color scheme for an event can be challenging and confusing.  My biggest advice is to not feel constrained to only two colors.  Three or more shades can really bring the drama to your party and the two-toned event is practically out the door for 2011.  There are a million predictions as to what will be the "hot" colors for this year, but, in my opinion, it should really be about the ones that make you feel the best!

If you are suffering from color confusion, here are some pointers:
  • Combine twice as many bolds as you do neutrals.  For instance, if you want to incorporate navy and green, be sure to tie in champagne, cream or ivory.
  • Walk into your closet...what color is the most prevalent?  Blues? Purples? Blacks?  Your style will surround you when you stand inside those walls...and you might just learn a little something about yourself!
  • Don't limit yourself.  If you have hired a good designer/planner, they will be able to help you work in every single color you love and want in your event.
  • Tie it all together.  Paper, lighting, florals, candles, food....compliment everything with your selected color scheme and your event will seem especially luxurious.
  • Don't be afraid of patterns and textures instead of specific colors.  These can be a great alternative answer to the oh-so-famous question "what are your colors?"
Of course, you must still keep your venue and season in mind as much as possible.  But, no matter what, make it what you love!

Boldly Yours,
Lori
