A few weeks ago I wrote about Summer Lovin'... well today I want to remind everyone to enjoy the amazing summer nights because before we all know it, the weather will change! With that in mind, consider throwing the next outdoor party (maybe after this heat wave moves through) for the friends and/or family. Need some suggestions? That is what we are here for! What do we have on our minds here at Boldly Chic...a backyard movie night!
Things that you will need to make this happen
1) A screen and projector. Other than the guests, these are the two most important items. You can make the screen out of PVC pipe and a sheet like the one shown in the picture or you could rent an inflatable screen at places such as FunFlicks. The projector you can rent from audio visual places such as Markey's.
2) Food! What is a movie without the popcorn and candy? I don't know about everyone else, but those are a must when I go to the movies. My suggestion is to have a self-serve popcorn buffet. Have various flavors of popcorn such as regular, cheddar, kettle corn, caramel corn or get adventurous with flavors like orange & green apple from http://www.kernelencorepopcorn.com.

Of course I did not forget about the candy...make sure you have different kinds to suit different people's taste buds. I would suggest some chocolate candy (of course!) something sour, something sweet and something chewy. Some good options are Twizzlers, Reeses Pieces, M&Ms, Sour Worms and Starbursts. Turn this into a fun buffet or place buckets of options next to your blankets on the ground.
As for the drinks? Create tubs of your favorite old fashioned sodas on ice for guests to grab and go!
3) Blankets and pillows. When watching movies, the best thing to do is to curl up with a big fuzzy blanket and some pillows. May be this is why I always fall asleep... but really you want to make your guests as comfortable as possible. I would have some blankets and pillows already laid out, but also have some extras in a cute display for them to grab.
4) Good Movie! Best bet for picking a good one? Either pick a classic or newly released movie. Depending on the guests, Sandlot, Jurassic Park, Mrs. Doubtfire, Titanic, Top Gun, Meet the Parents, and Catch Me if You Can are all great classic movies. Some new movies that I have heard are good include Despicable Me, Kings Speech, No Strings Attached, and The Lincoln Lawyer.

5) Bug Spray. Usually this detail is overlooked, but in the heart of the summer, bug spray is necessary. If your guests are planning on being outside for a few hours, I would provide some spray to protect your guests from getting several bites! No one wants to go home itchy. Lighting a few candles will help too..and will also add a cute touch to the party.
I hope this blog inspires you to go out and enjoy the last of summer. Have some friends over and have a blast. Oh...and you can certainly "rinse and repeat" this fun idea for those beautiful (much cooler) autumn nights too!
Happy Summer!
Boldly Yours,
Heidi
